Brian Novoa posts 72-67=139 to win Austin Open

Bryan Novoa was the last contestant in the field of the 2011 Austin Open at Grey Rock Golf Club.  Good thing he got in.  He was the last to leave the stage and with the winner’s check.  Novoa shot 67 in some of the toughest conditions seen in the 6 years f the event.  His final round was the best in the field by 3.  He won by 4 with a 36 hole total of 139.  “Said past Champion Jay Reynolds, “The course is great, these are real Championship conditions.”   
 
Tied for second were first round leader Lonnie Alexander (67-76) and Amateur Edward Sanchez (73-70).  Sanchez had a steady hand in Sunday’s windy conditions with a card that included 16 pars, 1 birdie and 1 bogey.
 
The Austin Open will donate $1500 to the Billy Clagett Scholarship fund for local players who qualify for USGA events. 
 
Howdy Honda was the Title Sponsor of the event and General Manager Cliff Collier was on hand to present Novoa the check for $3350.00  “We are proud the be apart of the Austin Open and what it stands for.  We look forward to sponsoring next year.” said Collier.        Read more…
