The Defending V-A State Champion Westlake Boys team is preparing for next weeks State Championship. After winning district and regionals the WestlakeBoys team is considered the favorite to repeat as V-A champions.
Team members Brenden Redfern, Matthew Perrine, Eli Juren, Stratton Nolan and Daniel De La Garza have all contributed to the teams march toward capturing another state V-A championship. In a show of strength of local high school golf programs, Joe Beck III of the Lake Travis IV-A Boys Golf Team paired with Westlake's Stratton Nolan to win the Spring Muny Partnership firing 62-60=122 to win with a comfortable margin. See the story of their win here.
It is noteworthy that the Westlake Boys and the Westlake Girls team are vying for the state V-A championship as while as the Lake Travis Boys and the Lake Travis Girls are vying for the state IV-A championship. One might conclude that high school golf in Austin Texas is alive and well and the next generation of golfers are doing a great job of representing the tradition of winning golfers from Austin.
