Austin – October 3, 2011 – Austin Amateur Golf (AAG) is proud to announce the team that will represent Austin in the 3rdannual Rudy’s I-35 Cup. Austin’s best Amateurs will play a two-day match play event against San Antonio’s best amateurs at Sonterra Country Club on October 29thand 30th.
This two-day event will include Four Ball, Foursomes and Singles. The following Mid-amateur players qualified on points; Kody King, Chris Hartenstein, Steve Paterson, Peter McGibney, Drew Bell, Bryan Kennedy, Aaron Kaiser, John Perez, Vince Brunssen and Ben Carter. The two Senior’s that qualified on points were Captain Mike Allen and Mark Baldree. Mike Allen will be a playing Captain and his Captain’s picks are Robert Evans (mid-am) and Steve Trafton (Senior).
The Rivalry before the Match kicks on the weekend on October 28that Sonterra CC. The Rivalry before the Match is a match play scramble that is a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity of Austin and The First Tee of San Antonio. Currently there are 20 Austin businesses, clubs or organizations that will be representing each city at the scramble to see which city will win The Community Cup. San Antonio has a 2-0 lead over Austin in this event which has raised $112, 000 for charity in the first two years.
San Antonio also has a 2-0 lead in the Matches and for the third year will be Captained by Pat McMahan. Pat’s assistant captains will be Tim Hobby and David Ogrin.
