Lead by Justin Thomas' five under par round, Alabama grabbed the first round lead at the Puerto Rico Classic with a 12 under par team total of 276. Clemson trails Alabama by four shots at eight under par and Texas trails by a dozen at even par 288. The Longhorns are trying to maintain a perfect spring season thus far, having won four consecutive collegiate tournaments.
Individually for the Longhorns, Dylan Frittelli shot 70, Tony Hakula 71, Cody Gribble 73, Julio Vegas 74, Kramer Hitchcock 75.
Jordan Spieth, the #1 collegiate player in the country according to GolfWeek rankings, is not playing for the Longhorns in this tournament because he played in the Northern Trust Open PGA event at Riviera Country Club in Los Angels, California. Frittelli, who is ranked second in the national individual rankings continued his fine play and posted the low score for the Longhorns.
The second round is being played on Monday and the final round will be Tuesday, Feb 21.
