The Westlake Girls team posted 310, nine shots behind the Woodlands 301, to end the first round of competition in the Region II Golf Tournament.
Lead by the Sims sisters, Sierra and Mariana, Westlake scores were similar to the Woodland team through the first three scores posted but a seven shot difference separated the fourth place score posted for each of the two teams. That added up to a nine stroke difference. Based on the first round results, the competition is primarily a two team event between Westlake I and The Woodlands.
Play resumes Wednesday with the final round being played at Cottonwood Creek in Waco, Texas. The top two teams from the regional competiton will advance to the state playoffs at the end of the month. The state tournament for 5A will be held at Onion Creek Country Club, April 30-May 1.
