The Leander ISD has something to be proud about this week.LISD had four teams advance to the 4A State Golf Championships at the Onion Creek Club.Although none of the teams achieved the coveted state title, all of the teams should be proud of their success. The Cedar Park Timberwolves and the Vandergrift Vipers have a relationship that is rare in sports. Both teams are fierce competitors, bitter rivals, and good friends. In the post season, Cedar Park won district and finished second in regionals.Vandergrift finished second in district and third in regionals. This pattern would continue at the 4A State Championships.Cedar Park edged out Vandergrift by 4 shots to claim the 4A State Runners-up title; Vandergrift finished 3rd.The Timberwolves and Vipers also had a Ladies contingent at the State Championship. The Lady Timberwolves fired 323 both days for a 646 total and finished in 3rd place. The Lady Vipers finished 7th.
In the individual category, Dana Clary from Cedar Park finished tied for 2nd place, but lost in a sudden-death playoff to finish 3rd.Jordan Sanders from Cedar Park and William Martinez from Vandergrift both earned All-State Second Team honors finishing T7 and T10 respectively.
Congratulations to the Men’s and Ladies Teams from Cedar Park H.S. and Vandergrift H.S. for your fine play at the 4A State Championships. You made us proud.
