The Lake Travis High School Cavalier Girls Golf Team recently finished second in San Antonio at the NEISD Swing for the Cure at the historic Brackenridge Park Golf Course. Emily Gillman, Ann Parmeter Kristen Gillman Veronica McGrail, Lauren Comegys, Courtney Gaskamp and Morgan Lay made the trip.
Here is an excerpt from the CavCatchUpCombo:
"After a 1st round 295 that put the girls 14 back, they came back and played even better in the 2nd round
shooting 291. Although we played well in the final round, Allen played even better and
stretched their lead to 36. It was a great start to year with three players (EG, AP, VM)
improving by more than 15 shots each over last years’ performance in this same event.
Veronica finished 16 shots better in the final round alone! The golf course itself played
short so our strategy from the tee was generally conservative; leaving us lots of
wedges into greens. We have been working hard on our short games and we will continue
to work from 100 yards and in to help us to take advantage of these scoring
opportunities. These young ladies have really bought into our philosophy of have the
best short games in the State of Texas and it is beginning to pay off. In the Final Round
we had our best performance yet on the greens and had our highest team up and
down percentage of the tournament. Our focus now turns to our preparation for the
next event which takes place Nov. 1/2 at Sun City in Georgetown.
What Record Book?
Oh yeah, and Kristen Gillman shattered every record the LT Girls Golf has ever seen.
In her first round 65 she turned at even par and then rattled off 6 straight birdies to start
the back in route to a back 9 score of 29. She then proceeded to play the next 36 holes at
15 under par, and just cause, she decided not make any bogies in the final two rounds as
well.
Her first round 65 set the girls single round record formerly held by Mei Liu(67), but that
record only lived for a few hours as Little Gilley shot 63 in the afternoon. Counting her
first round back 9 and 2nd round front 9, she played that 18 holes in -13 59!!
