The Westlake and Vandegrift Boys golf teams won the state 5A and 4A state golf championships after two days of competition at Onion Creek Country Club and The University of Texas Golf Club.

In the Boys 5A Division, played at the par 70 Onion Creek Country Club, The Westlake Boys entered the final round with an 11 shot lead and posted a final round of 291. That effort, compared to Southlake Carroll’s strong second round of 284, gave the Westlake Chaps a two day total of 575, four shots clear of Southlake Carroll.
Matthew Perrine of Westlake posted 68-68 and finished at four under par to capture the individual title, four shots ahead of Deer Park’s Michael Perras. Tyler Gammill of Westlake shot 69-74 to finish T5. Reese Ramsey’s 73 in the second round was crucial to the Westlake team in the second round.
In the 4A Boys Division played at the par 72 University of Texas Golf Club, Austin Vandegrift dominated the competition with a 17 shot victory over second place Dallas Highland Park. Cedar Park finished third.
William Martinez of Vandegrift shot 73-71 to finish second behind current U.S. Junior Amateur Champion Scottie Scheffler. Scheffler shot 66-72 and was the only player to finish under par at the U.T. Golf Club, where the 4A championship was held. Scheffler will play for the longhorns starting next year.
Cooper Dossey and Chase Phillips of Vandegrift finished T3 and 5th while Tobin Niblett finished T6, giving Vandegrift four players in the top 10.
In the 5A Girls division, played at the par 70 Onion Creek, the defending champion Lake Travis Girls finished second place behind Allen. Kristen Gillman of Lake Travis shot 69-68 and finished second individually. Maddie Szeryk of Allen shot 70-65 to win the individual title. See the full field scores at this link.
