Westlake Wins Fall State Preview Tournament, Dossey Captures Individual Title

The Westlake High School Boys Golf Team won the Fall State Preview golf tournament by six shots over Vandergrift High School.   The tournament, held at the Wolf Dancer Golf Course in Bastrop,  consists of a field of highly ranked high school golf teams throughout the state and, like the name implies, gives a preview of the high school teams relative strength for the upcoming spring golf season.

Reese RamseyWestlake secured the victory largely on the strength of a record setting nine under par team total during the second and final round of the tournament.  Their team total of 578, two over par for the tournament, also set a new record for a two day team total at the Wolfdancer course.  Reese Ramsey lead the Westlake team but the strength of the entire team provided the victory.  As can be seen in the individual scores of the Westlake team below, every member of the team contributed to the victory.   It is not unusual to have one player that normally plays well and contends for the individual title.  It is another thing to have a solid roster that can provide the team victory.

cooper dosseyVandergrift was in close pursuit of Westlake and provided a strong challenge to the eventual winner.  Cooper Dossey of Vandergrift (right) lead the Vandergrift team and won the individual title, shooting 68-69=137, seven under par.  Dossey is coming off a great junior golf season last year and recently represented the United States in the Duke of York Young Champions tournament in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Vandergrift also benefitted from the depth of their roster with solid performances throughout the team.  Their effort bodes well for their prospects in the upcoming high school golf season.  The individual scores for Vandergrift are shown below.
