Matthew Perrine, a former Westlake High School golfer and winner of the state 5-A individual golf championship, has had a busy week playing golf. He shot 65-70-70 to finish eleven under and tied for 5th at the 2015 Dogwood Invitational in Atlanta, Georgia then hopped on a plane and went to Kerrville, Texas to play in a U.S. Amateur qualifier at Comanche Trace Golf Course.
After shooting even par 72 in the morning, he fired up his game and posted a five under par 67 in the afternoon to tie for first place and gain a ticket to the U.S. Amateur. His afternoon round consisted of a one under par on the front nine and then he closed with a four under par 32 on the back nine. He birdied 14,15 and 17 in the closing holes.
Perrine played college golf at Auburn University his freshman year and has transferred to Baylor University beginning in the Fall.
Congratulations to Matthew on his good play. I know that Ann Marie Gildersleeve, who has been Perrine’s teacher for a long while, is happy about his accomplishments.
