Kody King shot 65-67, 10 under par, to win the Austin Amateur Golf Championship at Lakecliff Country Club and complete a breakthrough year. King's 10 under par total was seven shots ahead of Steve Paterson's who finished second. Robert Evans finished 3rd at -2 and Peter McGibney finished 4th at -1. Steve Trafton was the leading senior in the field with a one over par effort, capping a late season run of good play for Trafton.
King's dominant performance at the AAG Championship was in line with the rest of his season in which he captured the Austin Amateur Golf Rankings titles of Amateur of the Year and Mid-Amateur of the Year. King's year included the following: a win at the 2011 Mens City Championship, with four rounds under par; second place finishes at the Morris Williams Spring Championship, the Hill Country Amateur and the Bluebonnet Cup; and a third place finish in the Teravista Open. Paterson finished 3rd in the AAG Open points race and 4th in the Mid Am Points Race. His season included a win at the Teravista Championshp, 2nd at the Hill Country Amateur Championship, 3rd at the Chester Cup, and top ten finishes at the Firecracker and Bluebonnet Cup.
