Founded in 1974 as a company sponsored golf league (Motorola) with 6 tournaments a year for internal employees.  In 1978 the MGA opened up the league to family members, then Motorola customers, vendors, suppliers, etc., and by 2001 the league almost as many non-Motorola members as Motorola employees.  In the fall of 2001, the Board of Directors voted to drop the MGA title and begin operating as an "open" golf league and the Central Texas Golf Association was born.

Central Texas Golf Association (CTGA) is a non-profit, member-supported organization open to all male and female amateur golfers in the greater Austin.  The associatoin currently has 109 active, dues paying members.  The following is a summary of the associations activities:

The CTGA has a very diverse tournament schedule with over 30 tournament's per season.  In addition to the four City of Austin golf courses (Jimmy Clay, Roy Kizer, Morris Williams, and Lions Muny) the group also travels and plays public courses from Killeen to Seguin to Burnet to Bastrop.  The five weekday courses include: Falconhead, Forest Creek, Wolfdancer, and Teravista (twice).

The weekend tournaments are played on either Saturday or Sunday and all weekday events are played on Thursday afternoon.

As for restrictions, we do not allow professional golfers to compete for prizes in our events.  The same goes for school age boys and girls who currently and/or will be part of a collegiate, high school or junior high school and/or Junior Golf competition programs.  These players may play as guests of CTGA members.  Fees for these guests will be our course fee plus a $5.00 Guest fee.

State Employees Golf Association (SEGA)
The Texas State Employees Golf Association, SEGA, is an organization of primarily active/retired Texas State Employees and families who enjoy competitive golf.  Once a member, always a member, as long as you stay current (dues) and active.

The State Employees Golf Association (SEGA) was founded in 1977 under the leadership and direction of William E. “Bill” Stages.  It was the personal ambition of Bill Stages to have an organization where the Austin area State Employees could have their own association to promote the game of golf; to promote the camaraderie and fellowship of golfers who had a common work ethic, i.e., being a career State Employee; and, to provide a reputable base of operations to establish a handicap system for State Employees for their use in local and national amateur golf tournaments, and for everyday play with the other members of SEGA.

Our organization is governed by an eleven member Board-of-Directors elected (each August) by the general membership for two year terms.  Each year, the term for one half of the Board members expires and each is either re-elected or replaced.  This ensures continuity of the knowledge of processes by always having experience on the Board.  The Board itself (following election) selects the individuals from the Board to serve in the Officer roles of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer for the new fiscal year (September thru August).  The President selects the Chair Persons of any needed Committees.

Our outings (tournaments) rotate around the area (we strive for no more than an hour to an hour fifteen drive from mid-Austin).  We have at least one tournament a month and, of course, members only play in the ones they wish.  There is no minimum number that you have to play in except to qualify to win in the combined 2-day SEGA Championship.  We have members that play in every tournament of the year!  We usually have from 50 to 120 members that play in any given tournament depending on timing, format, and course location.  We try to hold our tournaments on state holidays or on a Saturday.

The annual dues are only $15.00 per fiscal year (September thru August) and that includes the big annual BBQ (catered) each August.  Each tournament cost is a little different depending upon where we play but the board works hard to keep the costs down.  Costs range from approximately $40-$60/person total (entry fee, green fee, and cart where applicable) for any individual tournament, but we do have a few tournaments above $60/person.  We try our best to negotiate a reduced price with many of the courses as part of a package.

We hope to hear from you to welcome you to SEGA. Please feel free to download the membership form at our website http://txsega.com/and follow the instructions on the bottom of the form.  If you have any questions, email us at txsega@yahoo.com.
