Austinhas a rich golf history.  Harvey Penick is Austin’s most famous son.  Mr. Penick’s contributions to the game of golf are best illustrated in his best – selling sports book, Little Red Book.   Mr. Penick’s  students include many of the greatest players not the least of which were a pair of young  Austinites named Ben Crenshaw and Tom Kite.  Austin is the birthplace of the PGA Champions Tour.  The first official Senior event, The Legends Of Golf, was held in 1979 at Onion Creek Country Club in South Austin.  Austin has played host to several LPGA Tour and Champions Tour events since that time.  Many  touring professionals call Austin home including, Crenshaw, Kite, Tom Jenkins, Rich Beem,  Joe Ogilvie, Bob Estes,  JL Lewis, Wes Short, Cindy Figg Currier , and Omar Uresti.
