Adam Lowe of Hondo, Texas birdied the first five holes at Slick Rock Golf Course at Horseshoe Bay to move into contention for the title. He added two more birdies on the back nine to shoot 65 and win the Horseshoe Bay Invitational by one shot over Jordan Cowart, who also recorded 65.
Lowe is ranked 9th in the San Antonio Player of the Year race. The Golf San Antonio rankings determine who represents San Antonio in the upcoming I-35 Cup competition between Austin and San Antonio. Jordon Cowart, who will be a senior math major at Southwestern University, also posted 65 in the final round, including a chip in on the last hole for birdie. Cowart credits working with instructor Tim Hobby of Sonterra Country Club in San Antonio for improving his play over the last year. Cowart finished third individually in the 2014 D3 NCAA tournament and is no stranger to playing well. Sunday was the first round he had ever played at Slick Rock and he played aggressively, using driver off the tee where others were playing more conservatively. It worked out well.
First round leader Jay Reynolds went on to shoot one under par 71 and finish third. Reynolds was the only player to break par in the first round at Ram Rock, where he shot one under par.
Joe Beck III, shown below, shot 67 in the final round and finished 4th.
With perfect scoring conditions the course yielded a number of low scores including 65 by Lowe and Cowart, 67 by Cameron Button and Joe Beck III, 69 by Mike Allen and Matt Werneke and 70 by Jeff Shell, Nicholas Cristea, Danny Lee and Erik Henson.
