Crowded Leaderboard at Sixth Annual George Hannon Junior Invitational

AUSTIN—The first round of the sixth annual George Hannon Junior Invitational was held today at The Hills Country Club’s Signature Course. The 85-player field features the top players on the Legends Junior Tour’s College Golf Camps of America points list. The event, which is run in partnership with the Hannon Cup Association, was created to honor one of Austin’s golf legends, George “Coach” Hannon.

Reid Davenport of Austin, playing in only his second LJT championship, leads the Boys 15-18 division after firing an opening round 4-under-par 68 on the par-72 Jack Nicklaus layout. Davenport, who turned 15 last week, made six birdies to go along with two bogeys. He’s the reigning Junior Club Champion at Barton Creek.

Davenport will face some stiff competition in the final group tomorrow. Ryan Grider, the current points leader in the Boys 15-18 division, is one shot back at 3-under 69. Max Miller, the 2012 George Hannon Junior Invitational champion, trails Davenport by two shots at 2-under 70. Miller won the title at The Hills Country Club.

There is a three-way tie for the lead in the Boys 14 & Under division. Jake Wittschiebe of Fair Oaks Ranch, Holden Wisener of Dallas and Parker Coody of Plano all shot 3-over 75. Parker’s twin brother Piercesson and Jenson Rogenes of Frisco are a shot back at 4-over 76. Only four shots separate the top 10 players, including current points leader Thomas Critch at 4-over 76.

Hailee Cooper of Montgomery and Jenna Phillips of Austin are tied for the lead in the Girls 12-18 division. Cooper, 14, is looking to win for the fourth week in a row. She won the Texas State Junior Championship in July followed by back-to-back AJGA victories in Southlake and Austin. Ann Parmeter, also of Austin, will join the final group and is only one shot back.

The highlight of the day came early in the morning when Chandler Rosholt made a hole-in-one on No. 12. She used an 8-iron for her first career ace in competition.

The final round begins 8 a.m. Tuesday with players teeing off Nos. 1 and 10. Spectators and media are welcome to attend. For more information, please click here.
