King And Fisher Win Muny Partnership in Playoff Over Noonan and Allen

Matt Fisher made a two foot birdie putt on the first hole of the playoff to win the Muny Spring Partnership.  After having posted an 8 under par 63 to tie Noonan and Allen, who posted 62 in the final round, the playoff commenced on hole #10 at Lions Municipal Golf Course.

Noonan and Allen had he honors and elected to play conservative with 6 irons to the fairway..  Allen missed left and Noonan split the center with his tee shot.  Long hitting Matt Fisher elected to hit driver and nailed a tee shot just short of the green.   Noonan hit a wedge 35 feet past the hole and Allen, playing from the left rough with a restricted backswing, dumped his second shot in the water.  Fisher proceeded to chip to two feet below the cup with a straight in uphill putt for birdie.  Noonan gave his birdie putt a good effort, finishing a foot left of the hole, and Fisher tapped in for the birdie and the win.

Allen commented that his partner, Brian Noonan, who is the current Austin Men's City Champion for the third time, basically carried the team, posting 65 on his own ball the first day and getting to -8 through the first 14 holes of play on day two. Allen said,  "Brian played 36 holes in 13 under par and we would have won going away if I had played a little better." Noonan is shown here on the left.

As the day unfolded, King and Fisher posted three under on the front nine, matching the effort by Noonan an Allen.  Both groups birdied 10 and 11 and King birdied 12 after a faboulous up and down from left of the cart path to a back left hole location.  Noonan responded by rolling in a 30 ft putt for eagle.  That left both teams tied at -13 after 12 holes in the second round.

Allen birdied 13 with a 25 foot birdie and Fisher matched him with a 10 foot birdie putt. Noonan birdied 14 and Fisher birdied 16 so both teams were tied at-15 with two left to play. . Allen narrowly missed a birdie on 17 and both teams narrowly missed birdies on 18 to finish in a tie at 127, fifteen under par.

First round leaders David Backus and Barret Sandefur, who posed the tournament low round of 61 on the first day, shot 67 on day two to finish one shot out of the playoff at 128.

The golf course was in great shape and the pace of play was excellent.  Congratulations to Mike Branski, the Greens Superintendent for the excellent condition of the golf course.

Erik Lopez, (shown below)who is running the show at Lions Municipal along with Steve Hammond, conducted a well organized event and the players were appreciative of the tee gifts, the food, and the pace of play.  Congratulations to all the staff at Muny for their efforts.  Muny remains a special place for Austin golfers and it's great to see the Spring Partnership, founded by Lloyd Morrison, continue to hold it's place in the hearts of Austin Golfers.

Shown below is Erik Lopez, saying a few words of thans to all the volunteers, players and the golf course superintendent just before he awarded King and Fisher the winners trophies.
