Steve Paterson shot 71-70=141 to win the Chester Cup by two shots over Keith Lundquist at Great Hills Country Club. Paterson birdied holes 4, 7, 11, and 16 while making a double bogey on the difficult par five 15th hole that had a pin placement on the side of a hill and was complained about by several players. He recovered immediately when he chipped in for a birdie on the uphill par four 16th after leaving his approach shot just short of the green. That birdie, coupled with pars at the last two holes was sufficient to claim the championship.
Keith Lundquist, who was tied for the first round lead with a two under par 69, turned the front nine in 39 and finished with a one under par 35 on the back nine to claim second place, two shots behind Paterson.
Mike Allen, shown here with Chester Burks, won the senior division and third place overall by posting 74-71.
Jennifer Petersen provided the players with much needed refreshments throughout the tournament as she captained the beverage cart. The players appreciated the cool drinks and welcoming smile as she inquired as to how they were doing. Temperatures were in the upper 90's so staying hydrated was an important aspect of playing well and staying healthy.
