Chester Cup at Great Hills Set to Go

The Sixth Annual Chester Cup kicks off Saturday morning with 47 attempting to capture the title.  The tournament is in honor of Chester Burks, a long time employee of the Great Hills Country Club.  Chester has been part of the Austin Golf Community for a long time and is loved by many for his generous nature and love of the game of golf.

Former winners of the Chester Cup include former City Champion Steve Trafton in 2006, Gene Black in 2007, Richard Sykes Jr. in 2008, West Lake standout and now playing at the College of Charleston Alex Ellis, and former Firecracker Open Winner and two time City Champion Robby Ormand, who now plays professionally.

In the field this year are Nicholas Cristea, the 2010 winner of the Austin Amateur points race in the open division, along with Larry Nunez, 2010 winner of the senior division Austin Amateur points race.  See the full field and tee times at Austin Amateur Golf.

The Chester Cup is one of the tournaments included in the Austin Amateur Golf points race for a coveted position on the I-35 Rudy's Cup, which is a Ryder Cup format competition between San Antonio and Austin.  The I-35 Rudy's cup will be held in late October at Sonterra Country Club in San Antonio.  For more details on the the points standing and the Rudy's Cup visit Austin Amateur Golf here.
