Lake Travis Boys Finish Fourth at Bart Granger Tournament

The Lake Travis Varsity Boys opened the 2011-2012 season with an impressive start at the 2011 Bart Granger Memorial.  The event was in Ft. Worth, Texas on September 16 & 17 and featured 51 teams.  The tournament is a 54 hole event with 36 holes played on day one and 18 holes played on day 2.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms during the 2nd round on day one resulted in the tournament being shortened to a 36 hole event. The Lake Travis Boys finished 4th overall with scores of 299-287- 586.  Klein Klotz lead the team by shooting 72-70- 142, even par, and finished 5th overall.  Joey Hearn also played well and shot 75-71- 146, finishing in the top 20.  Thomas Holtzman shot 76-74- 150, Dillon van Essen shot 79-72- 151, and Andrew Liu shot 76-76- 152.  The Cavs play next at the Fall State Preview in October.

The Bart Granger Memorial Tournament is a significant tournament in the Texas High School Golf.  It dates back over 40 years and is hosted by Paschal High School in Fort Worth.  The tournament is named after Bart Granger, a former member of the Paschal High School Golf Team who died tragically in an automobile accident in 1997, shortly after the Paschal golf team had won the tournament, which was then called the Dr. Pepper/Paschal Invitational.
