McCaffrey Lead Cut to Two Shots in Harvey Penick Invitational

Mike McCaffrey, who won the state Mid-Amateur Championship last week in Woodlands, Texas, played steady golf in windy conditions to post a second round 73 and maintain his lead.   The day's play began with McCaffrey and Neal Barfield tied for the lead at 69, five shots ahead of the nearest competitors. Barfield faded with 78 while Patrick Christovich, the current Lousiana Mid-Amateur Champion, and Peter McGibney made significant moves up the leaderboard by posting scores of 70.  McGibney is currently ranked 5th in the Austin Amateur Golf Mid-Amateur Point standings.  Brian Harris from Indiana and Chris Hartenstein of Austin also moved up the leaderboard by posting even par 72.

In the senior category, Jay Phumphrey from Georgetown maintained his lead by posting a 77 to go with his first round 73.  Mac McGee of Midland moved into second place by posting 73 and Peach Reynolds of Austin moved into third with a second round 77.  Jarrett Jones of Boerne had the low round of the day for the seniors, posting an even par 72.  The afternoon wave of seniors played in the rain about a third of the holes during their round, which did negatively impact scoring.
