Texas Men Advance To Finals Of NCAA National Championship Division I Golf Tournament

Julio Vegas birdied 16, 17, and 18 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades California to come from a one down defecit to win two up in what was the swing match of the day.

Near the end of the day Texas had posted two points on the board with victories by Tony Hakula and Cody Gribble and needed only one more point to advance to the finals over the Oregon Ducks.  Gribble birdied 17 to close out his match.

Dylan Fritelli and Jordan Spieth were locked in close matches with Fritelli all square through 16 and Spieth trailing in his match.  Fritelli wound up losinjg his match when Daniel Miernicki eagled the long par five 17th and birdied 18 to win 2 up.

With Spieth trailing in his match, Vegas appeared to have the Texas Team's fate in his hands.  He was one down through 15 then rallied to finish with birdies and win the match and allow Texas to advance.

At that point Spieth had won the 17th to go one down with one to play.  But, when Vegas closed out his match, Spieth's match became irrelevant.

On Sunday, Texas will face Alabama.  Texas and Alabama have consistently been ranked the #1 and #2 teams in the country so it will be a five match shoot out for the national championship.
