TGA South Mid-Am at Grey Rock

The Texas Golf Association hosted the 2013 South Region Mid-Amateur Championship at Grey Rock Golf Club on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 15-17.  Ed Sanchez of San Antonio emerged as the champion with a one under par total of 215 while Barret Sandefur of Austin finished a shot behind at even par.

The players battled high winds on the first two days with ideal weather during the final round.  The scores reflected the improved playing conditions and an easy course set up during the 3rd round.  Led by Ed Sanchez's 66, there were several scores in the sixties as the players completed their last loop around the Grey Rock Golf Course.

Sandefur held or shared the lead for the first two rounds and played a solid round Sunday only to be eclipsed by the six under par effort of Sanchez, resulting in a second place for Sandefur, the highest Austin finisher in the field.  Sandefur plays at Grey Rock and is familiar with the course, which contributed to his good play.
