Player Profile – Cooper Dossey

Recently Cooper Dossey won two prestigious junior golf events with impressive scores on good courses and good fields.  I wondered who this young man was and made some inquiries.  The following was submitted by Nub Donaldson, Coopers grandfather.  Nub Donaldson has been an integral part of the Austin golfing community for several decades and among other things was one of the original golfers involved in creating the Hannon Cup Association.  His friendship with Coach Hannon led him to enjoy the game and to encourage his grandson to take up the game as well.

Here is what he had to say about Cooper and his development as a golfer.

The picture here is Coop with his first teacher, George Hannon.  It was taken at Junior camp at Spanish Oaks about 9 years ago.

Coach taught him and his two younger brothers the fundamentals of grip, set up, etc. Most importantly he taught them proper dress and respect for the game as well as how to meet adults.  If you meet any of them you will notice that the hat always comes off, they grip your hand like a man and look you in the eye!  All part of Coach’s teaching.

After we left Spanish Oaks, he began working with Bill Moretti and has for about 5 years.  If you see Bill, be sure to ask him about Coop.

Coop attends Vandegrift where he lettered last year as a Freshman.  They finished 3rd at state last year in 4A.  They are currently ranked #1 in 4A.  He will be a 2016 graduate.

Coop lives on 17 tee here at UT Golf Club and I live on 15 tee.  He has played golf competitively since age 6.  He gave up other sports 3 years ago and lives and breathes golf.  He plays lots of tournaments every year. He has a fabulous short game and loves to practice that part of the game.

He has several Coaches/schools interested in him and is making visits to various colleges.  Top student as well. His goal is to play Division 1 golf and I know he has the talent to play in a top program.
