Kristen Gillman won the individual title to lead the Lake Travis Girls Golf Team to a second place finish in the Region II 5A regional golf tournament, held in Waco, Texas on April 14-15, 2014.
The second place finish will allow the Lady Cavaliers to advance to the state tournament at Onion Creek Country Club on April 28-29. The Lady Cavs are the defending 5A state champions and were in danger of not making the playoffs after the first round of the regional tournament. They responded by posting the lowest team total of the day with 297 to advance.
Gillman, who has won several tournaments this season, posted a second round 69 to win the individual title by three shots over Maddie Szeryk. Ann Parmerter, Emily Gillman and Veronica McGrail all posted 76 in the second round. This solid team effort was the key to the Cavaliers advancing to state.
The top three teams and the top three individuals from the regional tournament advance to the state tournament. Westlake finished fourth.
