Local mid-amateurs and seniors have been competing for a spot on the Rudy’s I-35 Cup Austin Team by participating in a schedule of tournaments that provide qualifying points for the competition. The Rudy’s Cup is a Ryder Cup style competition between Austin and San Antonio that has raised over $250,000 for San Antonio and Austin charities in the last several years.
Players from both cities consider this to one of the highlights of their golfing season and love playing in the event. It provides funding for charities and improves the relationships between the golfing communities of Austin and San Antonio.
Team Selections are determined by a players standing on the Austin and San Antonio points lists, along with a couple of captain’s picks. This year Dean Lundquist is Captain of the Austin Team. Brian Noonan is Vice-Captain and Steve Hatch is the Assistant Captain. The competition will be held November 8-9 on the Ram Rock golf course at Horseshoe Bay.
