Noonan Finishes Third In Texas Mid-Amateur, One Shot Out Of Playoff

Noonan, BrianBrian Noonan played the last 27 holes in the Texas Mid-Amateur Championship at Escondido Country Club in seven under par to finish third at 212, one under par for the championship.  Two players, Terence Begnel and Brandon Burke finished at 211, two under par to go into a playoff for the title.  Begnel won the playoff on the fourth hole.

Noonan, who was six over after 27 holes said he refocused after playing the last three holes of his second round front nine in four over par.  He started walking more and played to his strengths over the last 27 holes.  The results were dramatically better and propelled him to his high finish.

The three time Austin City Championship has yet to win a state title and this close finish was bittersweet.  But now he knows he can play with the best mid-amateurs in the state and winning is well within his reach.

Michael Cooper from Austin recorded a final round 68 to finish T15 and gain exempt status into next year’s TGA mid-am.  Congratulations to Mr. Cooper.  Barret Sandufer shot 69 in the final round and finished 20th.
