The Hannon Cup Association recently announced the teams for the 2014 Hannon Cup Matches. These matches feature a Ryder Cup style competition between local professionals and amateurs. 2014 will mark the 16th year of these matches and the amateurs currently lead 8-7 in the series. The competition will be held October 20-21 at Great Hills Country Club and viewing is open to the public.
In looking over the rosters, it is difficult to predict the outcome of this year’s matches because of the strength of the players on both sides. For the professionals, long time PGA Tour player Omar Uresti certainly looms large as well as Lonny Alexander and Brian Marini who have excellent records in these matches.
The amateur team has several players that have won all the local amateur tournaments including the Harvey Penick Invitational, Men’s City Championships, the Firecracker Open. They have also done well at the state level and participated in numerous USGA events. The roster is packed with for collegiate players.
