Kim Noonan and Anna Morales Help South Win Women’s Texas Cup

Champions PicKim Noonan and Anna Morales of Austin helped the South Team win the Women’s Texas Cup this past weekend.

kim noonanNoonan, playing in her first Texas Cup, posted a perfect 3-0 record during the competition. She plays at Austin Country Club and won several matches in this year’s U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur tournament.

Anna MoralesMorales, who is the current Women’s Club Champion at Austin Country Club posted a 2-0-1 record in the event.  She has participated in three Texas Cup Matches and made qualified for the U.S. Women’s Amateur on numerous occasions.  She played college golf at Duke University.

The event was played this past weekend November 1-2 at The Club at Carlton Woods- Nicklaus Course. The field was composed of the 12 women from the north section of Texas and 12 women from the south section of the state.  All players either qualified for the tournament or were picked by the captains. The tournament has been played over the past 22 years and was tied 11-11 going into this year’s competition.

After Day 1, the South was leading 11-1 after best ball matches in the morning and alternate shot in the afternoon. The team meeting that evening led by Laurie Rutherford and Co-Captain Mark Massengale.

The final day points totaled to 19-5, with the South team earning 8 points on the final day and securing the cup. The 19 point total won by the South team their highest output in the 22 years and is certainly an impressive feat.
