Jordan Sanders captured the Hill Country Amateur, played at Crystal Falls Golf Course in Leander, after winning a playoff with Sam Wallach.

Both Sanders and Wallach set a new competitive course record on Saturday by posting five under par 67.

The second round of the event was cancelled due to rain.  After play was called at 4:00 p.m., players waited to see if play would resume and hung out in the clubhouse area.  Shown below, Gene Black and Robert Evans watched the weather on their phones while waiting to see what would happen.

But the clouds and rain kept rolling in from the south with occasional lightning in the area, so the second round was cancelled about 5:30.

The lightning abated long enough for a tournament champion to be determined in a sudden death playoff, which Sanders won.

Sanders graduated from Cedar Park High School in 2014 and will begin his college career next fall at Texas Tech University, where he will be playing college golf.

Sam Wallach attended the University of Texas and after graduation worked a year in the financial services industry in New Jersey before returning to Austin.  He is beginning to play amateur golf in the area.  He is not yet a mid-amateur so he was unable to compete in the Spring Mid-Amateur at Morris Williams.  He will play in the Firecracker Open.

The course was in good condition considering all the recent rain.  And although there were a few spots marked off on the course due to moisture, for the most part it was dry and very playable.  The greens were not as fast as in past years so the putting was not as difficult.

Thanks to Wes Skaggs, head professional at Crystal Falls and his staff for preparing the course, running an excellent event, and keeping all the players, rules officials and gallery safe during the weather.
