Cooper Dossey and Nick Costello both qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur.  The qualifier was held at River Hills Country Club in Kerrville, Texas.   The U.S. Junior Tournament will be held at Colleton River Plantation in Bluffton, South Carolina July 20-25.

Dossey shot ten under 62 in his first round and broke the previous record of 64, set by Cody Gribble.  Gribble played college golf for The University of Texas and is now playing professionally.  Dossey posted an even par 72 in his second round to record a ten under total and win the qualifier by six shots over Nick Costello and Jansen Smith.

Costello shot 71-69 and was four under par for regulation play. He finished in a tie with Jansen Smith of San Angelo.  Costello won the playoff to capture a spot in the U.S. Junior Amateur.  There were only two spots available for the 45 entrants from around Texas.

To have both spots captured by Austin players is quite an accomplishment and speaks well for the quality of junior golf in Austin.  Dossey plays for Vandegrift high school and Costello plays for Westlake high school.  Congratulations to both players on their success.
