Larry Nunez shot 74-73-76 to finish in fourth place in the Texas Golf Association Senior Championship, held at Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio.  Peach Reynolds shot 80-74-73  to finish tied for 11th.

Reynolds, who has been named Captain of the Rudy’s Cup Austin Team for 2015, recently won the senior division of the Bluebonnet Cup with scores of 72-70.

Mike Booker of Houston won by four shots over John Grace of Fort Worth.  Booker recorded rounds of 71-73-72 to finish at three over par for the tournament.   John Grace, who played at the University of Houston is the only player to have won the Texas Amateur, the Texas Mid-Amateur, the Texas Senior Championship and with this year’s second place finish, he won the Super Senior Division of the event.

Mike Booker was the 2014 Player of the Year in the Texas Golf Association.  He has also played well in 2015.

The golf course was actually the winner in this event.  It was in excellent condition with deep bermuda rough under tree lined fairways and fast sloping greens that were in perfect condition.  Players that missed the fairway and were out of position were faced with difficult angles and poor lies playing to small greens surrounded by deep bermuda rough and bunkers.  There was no faking it on this course.  Players either hit quality shots or paid the price.  The scores indicate that most paid the price.

Even though the course was difficult, the players were impressed with the Tillinghast design that has stood the test of time and equipment changes.  It is a wonderful golf course.

The cut, which included the top 54 players and ties out of the field of 144 players, was at 157.  That is indicative of the difficulty of the course, or perhaps not very good players….
