Drew Bell overcame the wind, heat, and a difficult golf course to post the only even par round of the day and take the lead in the 2011 Central Texas Amateur. Bell's 72 was good for a one shot lead over Michael Carnes, who posted the only 73, and two shots over Rob Ormand, who posted the only 74.
Five players, including Andrew Carreon, Vince Brunnsen, Gregg McGibney, Stephen Paterson and John Parez posted scores of 75. The majority of the field struggled in the difficult conditions and posted scores somewhat higher their norm. Play concludes on Sunday and it is forecasted to be over 100 degrees again.
