U.S. Senior Open Practice Rounds Completed

Players completed their final preparations for the U.S. Senior Open at the Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.   Tom Kite, Mike Allen, Bruce Lietzke and John Harris played their final practice round together on Tuesday. Supporters, such as Richard Buratti, Ed Lewis, Robert Hawthorne were present to see the golf course and enjoy the friendly banter that takes place during a practice round.  The players are relaxed and play multiple shots around the greens, putting from several different locations on the green in anticipations of possible hole locations and experimenting with greenside shots from the rough, which is quite daunting.

The course is in excellent condition with greens rolling about 10.5 on the stimp meter.  There is considerable slope on the greens, which are some of the smallest that the players play on tour.  The bent grass on the greens is in good condition and the rough if healthy.

The course lays out with a fairly gentle start and builds as the round progresses.

Although there are some lengthly four pars on the front side, the golf course becomes more difficult starting with hole #12, a par three with water and bunkers.  There are several par fours in the 475 yard range from #13 into the clubhouse.  Driving the ball in the fairway is required to manage these holes successuflly.
