Three local golfers have qualified for the U.S. Mid Amateur tournament. Chris Hartenstein, Andrew Spooner and Peach Reynolds won spots in the U.S. Mid Am on 8-24-2011. The qualifier was held at the Hills of Lakeway. Hartenstein and Spooner shot 72 and Reynolds shot 74. Stephen Paterson from Austin secured an alternate spot.
The U.S. Mid-Am is to be played at Shadow Hawk in Richmond Texas. Designed by Rees Jones and opened in 1999, Shadow Hawk will host the U.S. Mid-Amateur on Sept. 17-22, 2011. The club also hosted the 2005 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur. The course's picturesque landscape features an abundance of large pecan trees, rolling fairways, a number of elevated greens and a 70-acre lake.
