Stephen Paterson shot 72-70 =140 to win at Tera Vista. Paterson has played steadily all year and was ranked 5th in the Austin Amateur Golf I-35 Rudy's Cup point standings headed into the Tera Vist Event. The win was his first of the season but marks the 4th local tournament Paterson has won in recent years including the 2006 Central Texas Amateur and the Bluebonnet Cup in 2008 and 2009.
Paterson overcame a head cold during the course of the event and took the lead with the first round 72. Feeling better the second day, he improve to shoot 2 under par for the day and the tournament.
Mike Allen, who shot 76-69 = 145, finished second, three shots back of Paterson. Allen was ranked 6th in the Rudy's Cup standings headed into the Tera Vista event. The 69 was the low round of the tournament. Kody King, the current city champion and leader in the AAG point ranking, finished third with 74-72 = 146. Ken Redfern posted 77-70=147 to finish fourth.
The Tera Vista event is the newest addition to the AAG schedule of tournaments that are included in the points race so the field was relatively small. However, it did include a number of the players ranked in the top 10 in the AAG standing that were trying to insure a spot in the Rudy's Cup Event. For more information about that event and the current rankings, see the information below and the link to the Austin Amateur Golf website.
The course was in good shape overall with lots of grass in the fairways. And, although the fairways are generous, wayward shots were penalized by water and OB stakes. Next year's event at Tera Vista is sure to attract more attention now that players have seen the course. See the full field results below.

The AAG points rankings will be used to determine the Austin Team in the Rudy's I-35 Cup in late October. The I-35 cup will be played at Sonterra Country Club in San Antonio October 29-30. The points standing for the Rudy's Cup prior to the Tera Vista event appears below. The Tera Vista event was a 500 point tournament in the AAG rankings and the points standing will be updated accordingly over the next several days. For more information about the points system, current rankings, and remaining tournaments on the ranking schedule, visit the Austin Amateur Golf webpage at this link.
The Rudy's I-35 Cup raises a substantial sum that is contributed to Habitat for Humanity. As part of that effort, a "Rivalary before the Matches" is held at the host club for the matches. This is open to anyone who would like to participate. To learn more about it, visit the AAG website and look for information about the Rudy's Cup Rivalry Before the Matches.
