6thAnnual Austin Open Set For Summer Date
Austin, TX – (4/01/2012) – The Austin Open which boasts the strongest local field of any golf event in Austin, will be played at Grey Rock Golf Club June 2 and 3rd, 2012. The Austin Open is a 36-hole individual stroke play event. This year there will be a separate purse for Amateurs and Professionals, but the overall Austin Open Champion will be the player with the lowest score, period. “Austin is such a great golf town and home to so many fantastic players. This event has been special over the years because the Amateurs and Professionals, young and old, are playing side by side” said Chip Gist, Founder of the event. “We are glad to be playing at Grey Rock because the course demands players control the distance and direction of their ball. If they do, they can go low.”
The Austin Open’s traditional spring date was moved to give the players a few extra months to hone their games before the event. It was also conflicting with some other popular amateur Austin events this year. Prior to the Open their will be a Skins game for the competitors, sponsors and Grey Rock members on Friday June 1. The skins game will be followed by Live Music on the beautiful Grey Rock Lawn.
Signs up began April 1, 2012. The field will be limited to the first 99 players registered. To be eligible players must have their Amateur status and a maximum verifiable GHIN Index of 3.0 or be considered a Professional. Entry Forms will be available at Golfaustin.org or by calling Grey Rock Golf Club at 512-288-4297 x2. Entry Fee for the 2-day event is $200 for Amateurs and $350 for Professionals. The fee includes green fees, cart fees; lunch each day, tee prize, trophies and tournament prize fund.
