Austin Area Juniors Shine at George Hannon Junior Invitational

The fifth annual George Hannon Invitational, played at The University of Texas Golf Club at Steiner Ranch in Austin Texas, saw fine play from several of the Austin area boys and girls junior golfers.

Charles KimCharles Kim of Cedar Park shot 69-67=136, six under par to win the Boys 15-18 division. Kim plays for Cedar Park High School and will be in his second season starting this fall.  Kim, along with Jordon Sanders and other teammates had a successful 2012-13 high school season, winning several tournaments and the Cedar Park boys look poised for another strong showing in the upcoming year.

Klein Klotz of Austin shot 70-71=143 to finish at one under par and finish third in the same division. Klotz played his high school golf at Lake Travis where he earned all district, all region and all state honors while playing on three consecutive state championship teams from 2011-2013.  He finished 2nd at the State Tournament in 2012 and 2013.  Klotz's last shot in his high school career was an ace in the playoff for 2nd individually.  See a video of that ace here. Julia BeckJulia Beck of Austin shot 71-75 to finish four over and win the Girls 12-18 division by four shots. Beck played on the Lake Travis Girls State Championship team in 2013 and will be playing for the UT Women's golf team starting this fall.  She has won the George Hannon Junior Invitational previously along with numerous other titles as a junior golfer.  

Kaylee Vesely of Austin finished T3 after shooting 79-75. Ann Parmerter of Austin finished T6 while Alisa Rodriguez finished T9.  Click here for the full field results in the girls division.

Cole HammerIn the Boys 14 and under division, Cole Hammer from Houston continued his domination of that division by posting his fifth win of season on the Texas Legends Junior Tour, shooting 70-64, eight under par.  Hammer's bogey free 64 ended with an eagle on the 417 yard par four 18th hole.

Lawson Klotz of Austin finished T10 in the boys 14 and under division.

The fifth annual George Hannon Invitational began with a banquet on Sunday night that was attended by over 200 people.  The banquet included  head coach for the University of Texas at Austin Men's Golf Team, John Fields as the speaker.  Fields spoke on the importance of leadership and used former Texas Golf Team Coach, George Hannon as an example of good leadership. 

Georg HannonHannon, shown in this photo, was the head professional at several municipal courses in Austin and coached the UT Men's golf team to two national championship during his tenure.The tournament is partially funded by the Hannon Cup Association and is one of the many ways they support Junior Golf in Austin and Texas.  To learn more about the Hannon Cup Association, click here.

The Hannon Junior Invitational is one of the premier stops on the Texas Legends Junior Tour (TLJT).  The TLJT is sponsored by the Texas Golf Association and it includes rankings for that tour and  honors for the player of the year are awarded for the Boys 15-18 division, Boys 14 and under division, and the Girls 12-18 division.  To see the 2013 points rankings for TLJT Player of the Year, click here.
