Harvey Penick Invitational Press Release

Press Release From The Harvey Penick Invitational Tournament Committee

The 76th Harvey Penick Invitational is this week and it looks like we will have our best and deepest fields ever in both the mid-amateur and senior divisions.

Our total field size is 114, with 66 mid-ams and 48 seniors. We'll have 56 out-of-staters coming from 21 different states. In each division this year we've set records for most ranked players, most out-of-staters, average handicap, and plus handicappers. We'll have two former Walker Cuppers, a former World Amateur Team member, a U.S. Senior Amateur champion, multiple U.S. Amateur and Mid-Amateur runners-up, multiple Texas Amateur and Mid-Amateur champions (and similar champs from other states), as well as qualifiers for every USGA and R&A championship. We'll have 5 past Penick champions and 2 past Senior Penick champions.

In the Mid-Amateur Division, 42 of the 66 players are nationally-ranked, and the average handicap will be +1.5 with 51 plus handicappers. In the Senior Division, 30 of the 48 players are nationally-ranked, and the average handicap will be +0.2 with 28 plus handicappers.

Results will be updated daily starting this Friday on the HPI website at http://www.harveypenickinvitational.com/results.html. A list of contestants can be found at http://www.harveypenickinvitational.com/contestants.html.
