After the first round of state high school 4A and 5A golf tournaments several Austin area golf teams are in commanding positions to win the state titles

In the 5A Boys competition, Westlake is leading by 11 shots over Southlake Carroll. Matthew Perrine of Westlake is tied for the individual lead at two under par. Tyler Gammill is in third at one under par and Nick Costello is four back at two over par.
In the 4A Boys competition, Vandegrift Boys lead Highland Park by five shots. Scottie Scheffler, the current U.S. Junior Amateur Champion and future Longhorn, shot 66 to lead the individual race while, Vandegrift’s Cooper Dossey is in second place at 71. Vandegrift’s Chase Phillips is in third with a 71.
In the 5A Girls competition, Lake Travis is in third place, 18 shots behind leader Allen.
Kristen Gillman of Lake Travis is tied for the individual lead with Julie Houston of Alle.n. Both players shot 69.
In the 4A Girls competition, Vandegrift is in 5th place, 13 shots behind leader Huntsville.
