Kim Noonan Advances To Round Of 32 In Women’s U.S. Mid Amateur

kim noonanAfter winning the Houston qualifying event for the Women’s U.S. Mid-Amateur by five shots, Kim Noonan and fellow Austinite Anna Morales traveled to the Harbor Trees Country Club in Noblesville Indiana to participate in the tournament proper.

Their first task was to make it through the 36 hole qualifying portion of the tournament to advance to match play, where the top 64 players would compete.

Noonan  shot 78-79=157.    Ordinarily those would not be considered good scores.  But, with difficult conditions and a difficult course, it was good enough to gain a T23 in a field that took the best 64 and easily advance her to the match play portion of the tournament.

Anna MoralesMorales, shot 87-77=164.  She missed advancing to the match play portion by a single shot.  Must have been very disappointing.  Morales has played in the Women’s U.S. Mid Am several times and is the current Women’s club champion at Austin Country Club.

Monday morning came, Morales went home and Noonan teed it up in the round of 64.   While Noonan would normally be working with spreadsheets and tax code updates required of her C.P.A. duties,  she was playing a match against Julie Carmichael of Plainfield, Indiana.   She proceeded to win that match 2 & 1 to advance.  Click here to see the scorecard of that match.

Tuesday morning at 8:51,  Noonan faces Meghan Stasi, of Oakland Park, Florida in the round of 32 on Tuesday morning.  We wish her the best.  Click here to follow her progress.
