Kim Noonan And Anna Morales To Play In Women’s Texas Cup

Austin golfers Kim Noonan (below left) and Anna Morales (below right) will play in the Women’s Texas Cup,  set for October 31-November 2^nd at The Club at Carlton Woods-Nicklaus Course in the Woodlands, TX. This is the 23^rd year for the Women’s Texas Cup matches and after twenty-two years of hard play between the South and the North, the score is tied: 11 wins to 11 wins.

The south team has already been set with a 2 day stroke play qualifier where the low 8 amateur automatically make the team. This was played on August 24-25. The next 2 players were selected by a point system and the last 2 players were picked by the committee.

South Team for the 2014 South Women’s Texas Cup Team are as follows:

The team has 3 players who are participating in the Texas Cup for the first time and includes long time veterans Stacy Dennis and Marilyn Hardy who have played in this event 15 and 19 times respectively.

Overall, 10 of 12 of the players played in college, which include:

Duke University, Houston Baptist University, Lenoir Rhyne University, Louisiana State University, Oklahoma State University, Texas A&M University, Stephen F Austin State University, University of Arkansas, and University of South Carolina.

The other 2 golf standouts are Leslie Henry who played tennis for LSU and didn’t pick up golf till the age of 35; and Marilyn Hardy, PGA wife of Jim Hardy, who played basketball and volleyball at UC Irvine.

The 3 captains for the South Team are:

Laurie Rutherford- collegiate basketball player for University of Houston and has an impressive golf resume herself. First year as a Captain for the South Team.

Mark Massengale- collegiate golfer at Texas Christiana University. Mark is the Director of Golf Instruction at Bentwater.

Jason Alexander- collegiate golfer at Stephen F Austin State University. Currently the head pro at the Fazio Course at The Club at Carlton Woods.
