Leaderboard Tight At Harvery Penick Invitational

DSCN6614Colby Harwell (r) and Neal Barfield (l) are two of three players that shot two under par 70 to tie for the lead in the mid-amateur division.  Harwell and Barfield both have ties to Waco, Texas and play most of their golf there.  Kenny Cook joined them to make it three tied for the lead.  Brian Noonan, the defending champion, shot 71 while four players, including Steve Paterson and Chris Hartenstein of Austin shot 72.

Defending senior division champion Bob Kearney and Tom Johnson (below) shot 68 to lead the senior division.  DSCN6613Kearney has won the mid amateur division twice in the past and is trying to add a second senior division title.

Johnson, who played collegiate golf at Cornell and currently works as a chemical engineer, plays at Great Hills Country Club and attributes his good play to instruction from Phillip Miranda and Rick Arnett, who teach at Great Hills.

One shot back at three under par is John Grace, the only player to win the Texas Amateur, Texas Mid-Am, and Texas Senior titles.  Jeff New shot 70 and Mike Peck shot 71.  New and Peck have both played in the U.S. Senior Open as amateurs and Peck was recently named the 2013 Player of the Year by the Texas Golf Association.
