Maurer Defeats Nolen 1-Up In U.S. Junior Amateur

Stratton Nolen, who qualified for the U.S. Junior Amateur, and then qualified for the match play portion of the tournament,  was defeated by Emillo Maurer of Mexico in the first round of match play.  Maurer won 1 up.

The first four holes of the match were halved with pars.  Nolen then birdied the 5th to gain a one up advantage, which lasted until #7, which Maurer won with a par.  Nolen won #9 with a par to go 1 up at the turn, but bogied #11 to go back to all square.

Nolen then birdied #12 to go back to 1 up but lost #13 to a birdie by Maurer.  Holes 14 and 15 were halved with pars.  Nolen bogied #16 to go one down and the final two holes were haved with pars.

Congratulations to Stratton Nolen for having made it to the round of 64 in a USGA national level tournament.
