UT Men Begin NCAA Play at Southwest Regional

The UT Men tee it up today in the first round of the NCAA Southwest Regional in Norman Oklahoma.  The top five teams will advance to the NCAA Championship May 29-June 3 at Riviera Country Club in Palisades, California.  The Southwest Regional Tournament includes Arizona, Arkansas-Little Rock, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Issinois, IUPUI, Loyola U. Chicago, Middle Tennessee State, Nebraska, Nevada, Oklahoma, Sacramento State, Sandiego, South Carolina, St. Mary's (CA), Stephen F. Austin State, Texas, Texas El-Paso, and Washington.

The Texas team consists of Jordan Spieth, Dylan Frittelli, Julio Vegas, Toni Hakula and Cody Gribble.  Spieth and Fritelli have been ranked the number one and two players in college golf for most of the season in the Golf Week rankings.   Spieth is currently ranked number one.

Frittelli, who recently won the Byron Nelson Award along with Georgia Tech's James White is a graduating senior.  The award honors graduating seniors for their character, scholarship, playing record and citizenship.  Frittelli, a georgraphy major, carries a 3.35 GPA. 

Play from Spieth, Frittelli and Vegas has been outstanding all year.  Hakula has made solid contributions throughout the season.  The fifth spot on the team has alternated between Alex Moon and Cody Gribble. Gribble will play in the fifth spot in regionals.   Follow live scoring at this link.

The Longhorns finished second in the Big XII Tournament behind Texas A&M.
