Alex Ellis teed off at 7:40 Monday morning in stroke play portion of the U.S. Amateur. After two rounds of stroke play, the field will be reduced to the low 64 players who will compete for the title in match play. Ellis is the only player from Austin in the competition.
The U.S. Amateur is being held at Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver Colorado where Arnold Palmer won the U.S. Open with final round charge.
Cody Gribble, who plays for the University of Texas national championship golf team is also in the field. Gribble lists Dallas as his home town.
