Sanders And Perrine In Top Ten At Texas Amateur

Jordan Sanders, who won at the Central Texas Hill Country Amateur last week in Leander, has posted 73-67=140 and is tied for 7th in the Texas Amateur tournament being played at Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas.

Sanders, who played high school golf at Cedar Park, will be playing college golf at Texas Tech University beginning next fall.

Matthew Perrine is one shot behind Sanders at one under par after posting 68-73=141 on the par 71 layout. He is tied for 9th.  Perrine, who won the individual state 5-A golf championship while playing at Westlake, just completed his freshman year at Auburn, where he played on the golf team.  He competed in several tournaments during his freshman season and has transferred to Baylor University, effective in the fall.

stratton nolenStratton Nolen, who also played for Westlake and now plays for Oklahoma State University, has posted 71-72, is at one over par and tied for 13th.

Nolen, a former winner of the Firecracker Open will be playing in that event later this month.

Steve Paterson and Chester BurksSteve Paterson, who shot 70-73, is also tied for 13th. Patterson, the 2014 leader in the Austin Amateur Golf rankings, will also be in the field in the Firecracker.

Brian Noonan, Cooper Dossey, and Klein Klotz all made the cut, which came at seven over par.

The championship, normally a 72 hole event, has been shortened to 54 holes and will conclude today.

The leaderboard is dominated by college players.  Grant Bennet, a junior at Wichita State, is leading the tournament at seven under par.  Michael Cotton, who is in second place at five under par, is a freshman at North Texas University.
