Reese Ramsey, a junior at Westlake High School, was eliminated from the U.S. Junior Amateur Tournament in the round of 32 by Eugene Hong from Sanford, Florida.
Hong birdied the four of the first five holes to establish a three up lead. After a bogey on number seven, Ramsey was four down. He fought back with birdies on eight and nine to get to two down.
Hong birdied 11, Ramsey birdied 13 and Hong birdied 14 to go to three up.
In the final stretch, Ramsey rallied again and won 15 with a par and 16 with a birdie cut the lead to one. Number 17 was halved with bogeys to set the stage for the final hole. Both players made par and Hong won one up. Ramsey was even par for the match and Hong was one under.
In the round of 16 Hong won 6 & 4 and was four under par during that match.
In the quarterfinals Hong won 2 & 1 and was six under par during that match.
In the semifinals Hong won 3 & 2 and was six under par during that match.
He will appear in the finals for the U.S. Junior Amateur.
Apparently Ramsey was defeated by one of the best players in the tournament. Congratulations to Reese for qualifying for the tournament, advancing to match play and winning a match.
