Westlake Region II 6A Runner-Up -2016

Shanna Jones, proud parent of Madelyn Jones, was kind enough to forward thiss photo of the Westlake Girls Golf Team and Coach.   Evidently the second round was quite exciting.  Coach Chuck Nowland sent this email describing the action.

“Please join me and Coach Patterson in congratulating our team for taking second place at the Region II Championship and qualifying for the state tournament at Legacy Hills in Georgetown on April 25-26!

It was an epic struggle featuring four very talented teams battling for the three “tickets” to state.  After Day I, Chaps and LT were tied at 293, with The Woodlands four back and Montgomery 17 back from the front-runners after an off round for them.  Well, Montgomery, led by state champ Halee Cooper’s 66, sure came storming back to shoot possibly the lowest round ever for regionals at Cottonwood Creek–280 or 8 under par, knocking out The Woodlands in the process.  The Chaps steady 295 secured a two stroke margin for 2nd while Lake Travis rode K. Gillman’s birdie/eagle barrage to a 289 and a six stroke margin over the scrappy, hard fighting Chaps.  These girls can play!

No doubt, it was one of the most exciting and well-played golf tournaments I’ve seen in all my coaching years, and I know Coach Patterson feels the same–though she has a lot fewer years. 🙂  We are so proud of our girls and all the competitors who gave all they had for the past three days …and yes that counts the practice round and all the months of preparation that came with getting to Waco.
